Method: a game's demand tier maps to a “GPU index needed for ~60 FPS at 1080p”; each GPU's relative index produces an estimate via a diminishing-returns curve, then scaled for resolution. Source: TechPowerUp GPU database (relative performance), 2026-08-29.

About This War of Mine

A small town surrounded by war. The usual order is irrevocably violated, you have to survive, but you are not a soldier and certainly not a superhero. The player controls a group of two to four civilians selected from twelve characters. The goal is simple - to survive the war. Later, new people can join the group. Characters need food, can get sick, freeze, die from wounds. Can run away with all the food stock. The day is different from the night in everything. During the day we equip the shelter, repair and produce weapons and tools - from what can be found. In the afternoon we communicate with neighbours, sometimes with benefit. At night we go out for prey. The night harbours us but also harbours looters, often they are armed. Winter brings cold and freezes water, requires more health and firewood. Decisions that have to be made often have a moral dimension - can one rob an unarmed person if this is a matter of life and death for someone from the group? As in life, events are seen as random and do not repeat from game to game. The same characters can behave very differently, and the siege can sometimes last twenty days, and sometimes eighty.

Performance reality & how to tune This War of Mine

GameRulePro editorial — these notes are based on This War of Mine's published specifications and genre profile, not a single benchmark run. Use them to set expectations before you open the settings menu.

As a 2014 indie title, This War of Mine sits at demand tier 3 (Light (entry discrete GPU)) — light on PC. It is light enough for older hardware and even integrated graphics at lower settings.

What to tune first on This War of Mine

  • Open-world RPGs lean on CPU and storage in busy towns — SSD + dual-channel RAM first.
  • Shadows and lighting scale hardest; keep textures high since they mostly use VRAM.
  • An upscaler at 4K recovers the most frames with the smallest visual hit.

The FPS table above is a model estimate from the demand-tier + GPU-index method. Real frame rates vary with drivers, background apps, thermals and resolution. Treat it as a buying or upgrade planning aid, then verify in-game. For step-by-step fixes, see the crash-fix and optimization guides linked on this page.

How the This War of Mine FPS estimate and rules generator are computed

Each game is scored on a 0–9 demand tier from its published PC requirements (and a year/genre fallback when requirements are absent). The FPS estimate compares your selected GPU's relative-performance index against the tier's required index using a diminishing-returns curve, then scales for resolution. The rules and tournament builder is a community-style template engine: it formats your group size, match format and tiebreaks into a printable sheet. All outputs are planning guides — verify in-game and agree house rules with your group before play.
