Method: a game's demand tier maps to a “GPU index needed for ~60 FPS at 1080p”; each GPU's relative index produces an estimate via a diminishing-returns curve, then scaled for resolution. Source: TechPowerUp GPU database (relative performance), 2026-08-29.

About Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Continuation of the sensational first-person shooter from Infinity Ward and Activision. It is rather difficult to maintain a high level of games every year, but it worked out in the sixth part of the series. The game continues the storyline of the previous part. The game consists of numerous fast-paced gunfights. Classic hit points are not here anymore - after receiving damage, the player only needs to sit tight in safety waiting for health to come back. There are three game modes: the story campaign, multiplayer and Spec Ops. If there are almost no changes in the campaign, and this is the same linear story, the Spec Ops includes 23 new levels for single or cooperative completion. Each level is a new task, a new challenge whether it is the defusing a bomb or the elimination of enemy forces. Levels are divided into tiers by their complexity. As in any other game of the series, the multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2 takes a special place. Each match is a mission, for which you need to come up with new strategies to complete. As in the past, new weapons and perks are opened for the execution of tasks.

Performance reality & how to tune Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

GameRulePro editorial — these notes are based on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's published specifications and genre profile, not a single benchmark run. Use them to set expectations before you open the settings menu.

As a 2009 fast-paced shooter title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sits at demand tier 6 (Demanding (high-end GPU)) — demanding on PC. A modern mid-range GPU handles 1080p comfortably, while 1440p asks for a step up in hardware.

What to tune first on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

  • Drop shadows, ambient occlusion and volumetric fog first — they cost the most FPS for the least visual change.
  • Disable ray tracing unless you have a high-end GPU; it rarely changes competitive feel.
  • Cap the frame rate to your monitor refresh to keep input lag consistent.

The FPS table above is a model estimate from the demand-tier + GPU-index method. Real frame rates vary with drivers, background apps, thermals and resolution. Treat it as a buying or upgrade planning aid, then verify in-game. For step-by-step fixes, see the crash-fix and optimization guides linked on this page.

How the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 FPS estimate and rules generator are computed

Each game is scored on a 0–9 demand tier from its published PC requirements (and a year/genre fallback when requirements are absent). The FPS estimate compares your selected GPU's relative-performance index against the tier's required index using a diminishing-returns curve, then scales for resolution. The rules and tournament builder is a community-style template engine: it formats your group size, match format and tiebreaks into a printable sheet. All outputs are planning guides — verify in-game and agree house rules with your group before play.
